Are you keen to find how to make your life more fulfilling, keen to develop yourself and achieve more success? If yes, you have probably already read lots of books and articles about personal development. And in so doing, you will have come across the concept of limiting beliefs – those deeply held beliefs that explain why you can’t achieve certain things. Examples of these limiting beliefs may be that I am held back by my fear, that I’m not as clever as others, that I just don’t have the capacity to hold my own.
But stop for a moment – is this understanding of our limiting beliefs actually limiting us? If our thoughts lead to actions or inactions, are we thinking too much about these negative notions? Is our dominant frame, or focus, on the negative rather than the positive aspects of who we are and who we could become?
How would your experience change if you put your attention on 3 key words:
- greatness – what is it about you that makes you great, what potential do you have and what choices would you make if you saw yourself as powerful?
- aliveness – does your energy too often feel somewhat low? How could you cultivate high energy? If you committed to living life to the full, how would you feel?
- love – so many of us experience difficulties in relationships and perhaps learn to put up our defenses to avoid getting hurt. But don’t those defenses stop the good people getting closer too? What would our lives be like if we embraced the magic of love, reconnected with others and lived a life of meaning?
The thing is, if we put our focus, our dominant frame on these 3 keys, we would reclaim the achievement, the joy and connection that make our lives wonderful and fulfilling.
We have to be aware that what we focus on defines our destiny!
